HTC Radar Windows Phone launched in India at Rs. 23,990

HTC has announced the launch of the first Windows Phone 7.5 Mango device in India, with the HTC Radar, which has been priced at Rs. 25,490 (MRP), and Rs. 23,990 (MOP). While Samsung’s Omnia W has also been announced (Rs. 19,900), it is expected to reach shelves after the Radar.

The HTC Radar was first introduced to world along with another Windows Phone Mango offering – the massive 4.7-inch display-bearing HTC Titan. The HTC Radar is a much smaller device, with a 3.8-inch S-LCD display that boasts of the same resolution as the Titan, at 800x480. The Radar is powered by a 1GHz Scorpion processor and Adreno 205 GPU on the Qualcomm MSM8255 chipset, along with 512MB of RAM.

Other specifications include a 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash capable of 720p HD video recording, a front-facing 1.3MP camera, a secondary microphone for active noise cancellation, microHDMI port, 8GB of inbuilt storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD, as well as a variety of connectivity options - HSPA 14.4 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11n with DLNA, GPS with A-GPS support, stereo FM with RDS, Bluetooth v2.1, and a 3.5mm audio jack. It has a 1520 mAh battery that is rated to deliver up to 360 hours of standby time, and 5.5 hours of talk time. It weighs in at 137 grams and is 10.9mm thick. The HTC Radar also comes with a document editor onboard.

On face value, the Samsung Omnia W is a similar phone, with a 3.7-inch (800x480 pixel) S-AMOLED display, along with a 5MP autofocus camera capable of 720p HD recording, document editor, and 8GB of storage. It even contains the same Qualcomm MSM8255 chipset with Adreno 205 graphics and 512MB of RAM. However, it has a faster 1.4GHz processor. Its lower price, compared to the HTC Radar, therefore becomes quite a plus point in its favour. HTC’s distinctive styling on the Radar though, with the aluminium unibody design, could be sufficiently attractive for the consumer, as well as the better camera - the 5MP offering on the HTC Radar has a 28mm lens with a F2.2 aperture, promising great photos in various conditions.
