The Xperia Ray was ostensibly launched in India at the end of last month,
along with the Xperia Active, but was expected on shelves by the second
week of September. Sony Ericsson had yet to announce a concrete price,
just a range for both devices between Rs. 17,000 and Rs. 20,000.
Now, in the beginning of the third week,
the Xperia Ray has appeared on online retail site, Flipkart.com, listed
at Rs. 18,995. While this might look a little steep, especially
compared to the Galaxy S i9003 with its 4-inch screen, we expect Sony
Ericsson to drop prices soon enough after launch.
In terms of specifications, it has a
3.3-inch display with an astounding 480x854 pixel resolution (equalling a
297ppi density). It has a better camera than the Galaxy S though, with a
8.1MP offering also capable of 720p HD video recording.
Other specs include a 1GHz Scorpion
processor and Adreno 205 GPU, part of the Qualcomm MSM8255 chipset,
512MB of RAM, 300MB of user available inbuilt-storage, microSD expansion
to 32GB (4GB card included), and a 1,500 mAh battery capable of
delivering up to 6 hours 50 minutes of talktime, 430 hours of standby
time, and 36 hours of continuous music play.
We expect the official retail availability to happen sometime this week.
