Adriana Lima and Other Dangerous Celebrity Diet Tricks

Adriana Lima
Victoria Secret Angel Adriana Lima always looks incredibly when she slithers down the runway, but she does some pretty drastic things to get that incredible body. The Brazilian stunner revealed that she's been doing two-a-day workouts since August, along with a diet of non-solid foods.

Then, she gets even more drastic the week before the show.

"No liquids at all so you dry out, sometimes you can lose up to eight pounds just from that," the new mom told the Sydney Morning Herald, adding that her workouts are super intense. "It's not really the amount of time you spend working out, it's the intensity: I jump rope, I do boxing, I lift weights, but I get bored doing that. If I am not moving I get bored very easily."

Yikes! Sadly, she's not the first - or the last - celebrity to use a drastic routine to drop the lbs.

Beyonce

Beyonce slimmed down her sexy curves by 20 lbs. for her role in "Dreamgirls" with the Master Cleanse diet, also known as the Lemonade Diet or Cayenne Pepper Diet.

"Normally they'd change your makeup or your clothes but I wanted to go the extra mile," Beyonce told China Daily during filming. "Back in the sixties, models like Twiggy were popular and I knew Deena would have been thin then, so even though I really love eating, it was necessary to lose weight really fast because we shot Deena at 16 and Deena at 36 two weeks apart."

The diet involves drinking a concoction of water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup.
Supporters of the Master Cleanse say it "not only supports healthy weight loss, but helps to eliminate toxins and congestion; cleanse the kidneys and the digestive system; eliminate waste and hardened materials in the colon; increase energy, remove cravings associated with drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and junk food; and even alleviate some chronic diseases."

However, it's not really true - the diet severely deprives the body of nutrients and amounts to no more than a laxative, according to Everyday Health writer Ed Zimney, MD.

Daphne Guinness

Guinness beer heir Daphne Guinness isn't a celebrity in the purest sense of the name, but she is emerging as a fashion icon within the industry. A recent New Yorker profile delved into the socialite's life - including her dislike for food.

"Teresa Alfonso, Guinness's personal assistant, tried to get her to eat some of the pasta that had been prepared for the production team," the New Yorker writer wrote in the piece. "'If I eat, I can't work,' Guinness, who had been subsisting on a very healthy diet of Red Bull and Ensure, said. 'I'll eat when I'm dead.'"

Probably not a good idea, Daphne.

Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton was under intense pressure to look perfect for her royal wedding to Prince William on April 29. Some believed she took on the same diet as her mother to lose a bunch of weight - the Dukan Diet.
However, expert Dr. Katz wrote in a Huffington Post blog that it's not worth the effort.

"As best I can tell, this is classic quick-fix weight-loss hooey. The diet seems to involve cutting out most foods -- carbohydrate foods in particular -- to lose weight fast," Dr. Katz wrote. "Then, foods are slowly added back to make the diet liveable. But, to avoid weight regain, you have to keep circling back to the 'just cut out everything' phase. Stunning, isn't it... that not being allowed to eat most foods leads to weight loss?"
A better idea? Eat sensibly and exercise - crazy thought, huh?
